Can I have implant?

Most of the people can have dental implants. The main question before implantation is the bone density and availability in your jawbone. During the consultation we will analyze your CT or digital panorama x-ray to assess the bone quality in the jaws. If a patient did not have sufficient bone for implantation, bone substitution (bone grafting, augmentation) should be made before implantation.

There are some pre conditions for successful implantation, which are as follows:
  • Sufficient bone in the jaw bone. If there was no sufficient bone, we would make bone grafting/replacement. Diagnosis: dentist analyses good quality CT or panoramic x-ray.

  • No inflammation in the gum, root or in the jaw. Before implantation we have to eliminate any inflammation. Self diagnosis: red and/or bleeding gum, tooth pain. Final diagnosis by the dentist.

  • Reasonable good oral hygiene. If the oral hygiene is not satisfactory (i.e. too many bacteria in the mouth) intensive dental hygienic cleaning is necessary before implantation. This requires 2 more weekdays stay. Self diagnosis: plaque/tartar on the tooth, no daily tooth brushing or dental flossing. Final diagnosis by the dentist.

  • Tooth was extracted more than 2 or 3 months before implantation. We have to wait 2 or 3 months until new bone is formulation at the place of the extraction where the implant would be inserted.

  • No major health issues which has to be judged individually (e.g. diabetes, osteoporosis, cytostatic or radiotherapy therapy, bleeding disorders, etc.)

  • Older than 18 years old. Implantation is not recommended if you are younger than 18 years old, because the anatomic is changing up to 18 years.
