Bone substitution and sinus lift(bone grafting or bone augmentation)
Our specialised surgeons (oral and maxillofacial surgeon, dento-alveolar surgeon, implantologist) are
Dr Dominik Nagy and
Dr Eszter SzontághIf you did not have
sufficient amount of
bone in the upper or lower jaw to support an
implant, or to restore functionality and aesthetic appearance of bone in the jaw, we would make bone substitution.
Two main types of bone substitution:
- Bone substitution (bone graft or bone augmentation) when the dentist extend the jaw bone rather horizontally
- Sinuses lift when the dentist extends the jaw bone rather vertically at the upper premolar and molar upper teeth
Dental implant
needs sufficient amount of bone to hold it in place and when the sinus
wall is very thin, bone has to build up vertically before implantation
in the upper jaw.
During
sinus augmentation (or sinus
lift or sinus
graft) bone is added to the
upper jaw (maxilla, maxillary sinus) in the area of
premolar and
molar teeth. The goals of a sinus lift to
vertically extend the available bone in the upper jaw to support
dental implants.
After
tooth extraction
significant degeneration of the surrounding bone may begin. You have
several options to prevent this, and it is important that you consider
them. When your tooth is extracted you can replace it by either an
implant to
prevent bone losses in your jaw or to make bone grafting right after the extraction.
If you had
denture, you could not wear it for around
10 days up to
3 weeks
after bone replacement. After this period you can wear the denture only
for aesthetic reasons and must not bite with the denture for around one
and a half months. When you wear the denture it can not pressure the
place of the bone grafting.
After the bone replacement and implantation your face may
bunk and can have
pain up to
10 days.
You can foment it and take pain killer to reduce the symptoms. If every
day appearance is very important for you (e.g. if you are sales man,
public speaker, etc.) you should schedule your bone replacement and
implantation by taking this 10 days period into account.
In the region of the bone replacement or sinus lift we would not make other treatment until it heals properly.
The
implants can be placed at the time the grafting is performed if not
large amount of bone or not many teeth were involved in the bone
grafting. If significant amount of bone was used for bone grafting, the
healing period could be up to
six months until the jaw bone become suitable for implantation.
Costs of bone replacement or sinus lift can compose of these main cost items:
- bone replacement surgery
- method of bone substitution (i.e. typically artificial bone is used, sometimes own bone from chin or hip)
- amount and type of bone placed. Typical amount of bone is 1-2 gram per mouth quadrant.
- number of pieces and type (manufacturer) of membrane used. Membrane
would be necessary when your gum tissue was not strong enough to keep
the inserted bone in place. The function of the membrane is to hold the
inserted bone.
If you had a quote, please, check weather the
quoted price would
refer to only
a tooth or a mouth
quadrant or something else.
Our prices refer to a mouth quadrant.
Sometimes dentistries charges separately for stitches, local anaesthesia, and various items and actions.
Our prices and quotation include all costs.
